Managing Director Mike Allison of ‘Jelen Premier Wildlife Services’, explains why he has dropped the DSC1 in favour of the PDS1 'Proficient Deer Stalking Certificate Level 1' and Proficient Deer Stalking Certificate Level 2 (PDS2).

Hot of the heels of Harper Adams University adopting the Proficient Deer Stalking Certificate Level 1 as its UK deer stalking qualification of choice. Another leading UK provider of Deer Management Qualifications, Jelen PWS, has now adopted the PDS1 online deer stalking certificate, as its deer stalking course of choice.

Experienced deer stalker and Managing Director of Jelen PWS, Mike Allison said:

“We are proud to now be offering the LANTRA Approved ‘Proficient Deer Stalking Certificate Level 1’ and the ‘Proficient Deer Stalking Certificate Level 2’ course, through the ‘Shooting & Hunting Academy’.

It’s a fantastic platform, for hosting top quality courses and we are proud to be a part of it”.

Having worked in the industry for decades and having delivered deer stalker training to hunderds of DSC1 candidates, there are few who have as much experience as Mike, who added:

Mike Allison PDS1 Certificate“As far as the PDS1 is concerned, I think that it is a great move to now provide choice, and this is what people haven’t had in the past, they have just had to do DSC1, now we have this nationally recognised and LANTRA approved qualification, so people can choose what they want. And from what I can see, the PDS1 is set to become the British standard in deer stalker training”.

Readers will be aware that Jelen PWS have been running deer management courses for many years and have a stella reputation as a leading provider of deer stalker training. Jelen’s shift away from DSC1 in favour of the PDS1, reflects a growing trend amongst many providers of deer stalker training, toward this easily accessible online course and LANTRA Accreditation.

In 2023 the prestigious agricultural University Harper Adams also adopted the Proficient Deer Stalking Certificate Level 1 as its deer stalking course of choice, and the course is now available to all students at Harper Adams University, who wish to pursue a career in deer stalking.

Why choose LANTRA?

LANTRA themselves are regulated by the 'British Standards Institute' and 'Ofqual' and have for years set the bar for land-based, countryside skills. It is only right therefore, that candidates who obtain a deer stalking qualification should have that qualification underpinned by LANTRA Accreditation.

Candidates who seek this accreditation, may now do so by following this link to Jelen PWS: premierwildlife.co.uk/pds1 from which they can access the PDS1 course.
