It has now been two years since London-based, large game hunting club ‘Capreolus Club’ launched at the world famous Annabel’s in Mayfair. That evening the club had 14 original members. One year on at the club’s first anniversary, held at Dunhill, it had grown to 40. Today two years on the club has grown to in excess of 60.

There is no doubt that the Capreolus club has proved to be a great success and to celebrate its 2nd anniversary, I went along to the club’s Cigar and Brandy evening at Dunhill’s flagship store in St James.

Cognac, Calvados and Armangac might not have appeared on a list of my first choice of tipple on what was one of the warmest days of the summer so far, however the club’s resident wine expert Peter Lunzer’s choice of Brandy was inspired and the perfect accompaniment to two fine cigars selected by Dunhill aficionado Robert Emery.

(Twenty eight of the Clubs members and their guests enjoyed some superb Brandy and two fine Cigars)

Of course the evening wasn’t all about boozing and smoking, the Capreolus Club also welcomed world famous gunmaker’s ‘Rigby’, personified by Rigby’s managing Director Marc Newton who presented members with the opportunity to view and find out more about a superb antique sales ledger, containing details of many famous purchasers of Rigby Rifles, ranging from professional big game hunters such Karamojo Bell to members of the Royal family.

In between sips of an genuinely first class Cognac and puffs of an excellent Havana cigar, I spoke to club chairman Peter Jones; “Whilst we are delighted to be attracting a growing membership of both beginners and experienced hunters, the club is not just about new members, it is also about ensuring that we are offering our existing members great trips and events”

Peter Jones went on to explain how the club’s next event would be a club lunch and Stalk in Hampshire during the height of the Roe Rut in late July. Jones went on to reveal that In addition to these types of domestic trip, the club would continue to offer stalk and range days throughout the year along with trips to Scotland and superb value trips abroad. Including the sole use of the stunning Dalness Estate for Red stalking and most recently a uniquely affordable Buffalo hunt in Mozambique, priced at just £6000-00 and offered exclusively to Capreolus Club members.

The Capreolus Club is the official members club of County Deer Stalking and welcomes deer stalkers and big game hunters of all abilities.
